    Guidance for Net Zero Emissions

Launched in November 2022, the ISO Net Zero Guidelines were developed to provide a common reference for collective efforts, offering a global basis for harmonizing, understanding, and planning for net zero for actors at the state, regional, city and organizational level.

    Beyond Carbon Neutral

Carbon neutrality means that a business has balanced its carbon emissions with carbon offsets. This means that the business is still emitting greenhouse gases, but it is also taking steps to reduce those emissions or to offset them by supporting projects that remove carbon from the atmosphere.

Net zero goes a step further than carbon neutrality by requiring businesses to eliminate all of their greenhouse gas emissions. This can be done through a combination of emission reduction and carbon removal.

    Benefits to Business

    • Improved brand reputation: Consumers are increasingly looking for businesses that are committed to sustainability. By becoming carbon neutral or net zero, businesses can improve their brand reputation and attract more customers.
    • Reduced risk: Climate change is a major risk to businesses. By reducing their carbon emissions, businesses can reduce their exposure to this risk.
    • Cost savings: There are a number of cost savings that can be achieved by reducing carbon emissions. These include savings on energy costs, waste disposal costs, and insurance costs.
    • New market opportunities: Businesses that are early adopters of carbon neutrality or net zero can gain a competitive advantage in new markets.
